Long Tail Review
Out of all the choices of books I could have read, I went with The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business Is Selling Less of More, written by Chris Anderson. I never heard of this book before I chose to read it and the reason why I chose it was because the title caught my attention and I wanted to know the concept behind the book. This was one good book! The ideas Anderson had in the book were good and now I have an understanding of what the long tail is. One of things I agreed with Anderson was that ever since the internet was invented and online businesses started appearing, they have beat out retail stores. It is true when he said that the reason why internet companies are so successful is because they offer things that retail stores do not; they give customers more options and thats why they are so successful. By having all these options, there is at least one person in the world that would want and these internet companies such as amazon, have tons of books, and rhaspody, having tons music, have proven it and thats why they have a long tail. Another thing i also agreed with Anderson was is the two things business must do to keep the long tail which were, making everything about it and making things easy. As long as businesses keep these concepts in their business they will continue to succeed forever. One more thing I found interesting was when he starting speaking about the industrial revolution and how that era help start business from Thomas Edison to Ford to railroads to Sears. As the years went on people have taken these ideas and made more successful and more convenient for customers, for example Sears went from catalog to building retain stores and another example is WalMart and its success. Overall this is a great book that any business person, especially an entrepreneur as myself, should read to have a better understanding of business and how it evolves and will continue to change and how to succeed in an trend setting world.
